Description

THE FULLEST EXPRESSION OF THE A-SERIES

The Børresen A3 is the largest model in the new A-Series.

It brings greater depth, scale, and dynamic authority to the range. At the same time, it preserves the speed, clarity, and coherence that define the Børresen sound.

The A3 sits between the X-Series and C-Series. Therefore, it creates a more accessible route into high-end Børresen performance.

It draws on ideas developed for the company’s higher-tier loudspeakers. However, it presents them in a refined design that balances performance, technology, and value.

Designed and assembled in Aalborg, Denmark, the A3 combines advanced engineering with modern Scandinavian craftsmanship.

Above all, it aims to reproduce music with natural scale, effortless dynamics, and a strong sense of realism.

GREATER SCALE WITHOUT LOSING CONTROL

The A3 expands the A-Series concept into a larger floorstanding design.

Its cabinet supports three DCC5s drivers. One covers the bass and midrange. Meanwhile, two dedicated drivers support the lower bass range.

Together, these drivers allow the A3 to move more air and reach deeper into the lowest frequencies.

However, the design does not focus on output alone.

Børresen also places great importance on speed, timing, and control. Therefore, the A3 aims to deliver powerful bass without sounding slow or heavy.

The result is a loudspeaker that can reproduce large musical events with authority. At the same time, it remains responsive to fine details and small changes in expression.

CREATED FOR MUSICAL REALISM

Børresen designs its loudspeakers to reduce the distance between the recording and the listener.

Therefore, every part of the A3 supports clarity, timing, and natural tonal balance.

Its drivers respond quickly to changes in the signal. Meanwhile, the crossover manages their interaction as one complete system.

The cabinet also provides a stable and well-controlled structure.

As a result, voices can sound more natural. Instruments can appear with clearer placement and more realistic size.

The A3 also handles wide dynamic contrasts with ease.

Quiet passages remain open and detailed. In addition, large peaks can unfold with weight and impact.

Therefore, the listener can experience both the smallest details and the full scale of the performance.

KEY TECHNOLOGIES

THE BØRRESEN DCC5s DRIVERS: DEPTH, SPEED, AND CONTROL

Borresen A3 – Floor Standing Speaker

The A3 uses three Børresen DCC5s drivers.

One driver handles bass and midrange frequencies. The other two focus on the lower bass range.

This arrangement gives the A3 greater depth and authority than the smaller A-Series models.

However, each driver follows the same core design goals: low distortion, fast response, and precise control.

The diaphragm uses a multi-layer construction.

An aramid honeycomb core sits between two carbon-fiber skins. Børresen bonds these layers into one unified structure.

This design combines high stiffness with low weight.

Therefore, the diaphragm can move quickly while maintaining its shape.

The rigid structure also moves unwanted resonances beyond the driver’s main working range.

As a result, the DCC5s can reproduce music with lower distortion and less coloration.

The motor system uses a ferrite magnet structure. It provides strong and stable magnetic force.

In addition, two copper caps reduce inductance in the voice-coil gap.

Lower inductance improves linearity. It also helps the driver follow the signal more accurately.

Therefore, each DCC5s unit can start and stop with greater precision.

The driver also uses a titanium voice-coil former.

Titanium combines low mass with high rigidity. As a result, it supports fast movement while maintaining structural stability.

Together, these elements help the A3 deliver deep bass, open midrange, and accurate musical timing.

THE RP94 RIBBON TWEETER: SPEED WITH STABILITY

The A3 uses the Børresen RP94 ribbon tweeter.

It operates from 2.5 kHz upward and offers 94 dB sensitivity.

Its aluminium-coated nylon and aramid membrane weighs only 0.01 grams.

Because the moving mass is so low, the tweeter can respond very quickly.

Therefore, it can reveal fine details, subtle tonal changes, and the natural decay of instruments.

The RP94 also remains stable during strong dynamic peaks.

Although its motor system remains fully hidden, the tweeter maintains linear behavior across its working range.

As a result, high frequencies remain open and detailed without becoming harsh or strained.

The membrane can also withstand temperatures of up to 600°C without losing performance.

This balance of speed and strength supports clear imaging and natural spatial detail.

A 2.5-WAY APPROACH FOR COHERENCE

The A-Series follows Børresen’s 2.5-way design philosophy.

In the A3, one DCC5s driver covers bass and midrange frequencies. Meanwhile, two additional DCC5s drivers support the lower bass region.

The RP94 tweeter handles the highest frequencies.

This layout gives the A3 strong low-frequency output without the added complexity of a full three-way design.

A simpler crossover can reduce phase problems and signal loss.

Therefore, the drivers can work together with greater coherence.

Voices remain focused. Instruments also keep their position within the soundstage.

As a result, the A3 can create a large presentation without losing balance or precision.

DEEP LOW-FREQUENCY PERFORMANCE

The A3 reaches down to 25 Hz.

This gives it the deepest low-frequency extension in the A-Series.

However, depth alone does not define high-quality bass.

The A3 also focuses on speed, control, and pitch accuracy.

Its two dedicated bass drivers add weight and scale. Meanwhile, the bass/midrange driver maintains continuity with the upper frequencies.

Therefore, bass remains part of the complete musical picture.

Large drums can sound powerful and physical. At the same time, acoustic bass can retain texture, tone, and rhythmic detail.

The A3 adds authority without allowing low frequencies to cover voices or fine detail.

CONTROLLED REAR VENTING

Borresen A3 – Floor Standing Speaker
The A-Series does not rely on a conventional bass-reflex design built around one strong resonance frequency.

Instead, Børresen uses controlled rear venting.

This system manages internal airflow without heavily boosting one narrow part of the bass range.

As a result, it reduces compression and allows the drivers to move more freely.

The design also supports faster and more natural low-frequency reproduction.

This is especially important for the A3.

Its larger cabinet and two dedicated bass drivers create substantial low-frequency energy.

Therefore, careful airflow control helps preserve speed and accuracy.

The result is bass with depth and authority, but without unnecessary weight or delay.

SEAMLESS DRIVER INTEGRATION

The A3 uses four drive units in total.

However, the listener should hear one complete loudspeaker rather than separate drivers.

Therefore, Børresen carefully controls the crossover and frequency distribution.

The crossover manages the transition between the bass drivers, bass/midrange driver, and tweeter.

At the same time, it aims to preserve phase behavior and reduce signal loss.

As a result, the presentation remains connected from the lowest bass to the highest frequencies.

This improves vocal clarity and image focus.

It also helps the soundstage remain stable during dense or complex music.

Therefore, the A3 can produce a large and powerful sound while maintaining coherence.

NOISE REJECTION THROUGH COMPLETE SYSTEM DESIGN

Noise can hide fine detail and reduce realism.

It can come from driver movement, cabinet vibration, crossover loss, electrical behavior, or outside interference.

Therefore, Børresen treats noise control as part of the entire A3 design.

The DCC5s drivers combine low mass with high stiffness. As a result, they move with greater control.

Their motor systems reduce inductance and distortion.

Meanwhile, the crossover supports coherence and limits signal loss.

The cabinet provides damping and resonance control.

Together, these elements help lower the overall noise floor.

As a result, the A3 can reveal more detail, space, and tonal information.

Music can sound more open and transparent, even at lower volume levels.

CABINET CONTROL AND RESONANCE MANAGEMENT

The cabinet gives the A3 its scale and physical presence.

However, it also plays an important role in performance.

An uncontrolled enclosure can store energy and release it after the musical signal.

This can blur timing and alter the natural sound of voices and instruments.

Therefore, Børresen designed the cabinet to provide strength, damping, and stable support.

Its structure helps the drivers work from a controlled platform.

The internal design also manages airflow and pressure.

As a result, the cabinet contributes less of its own sound.

This allows the listener to hear more of the recording itself.

MECHANICAL GROUNDING

Mechanical vibration can move between the loudspeaker and the floor.

It can also return to the cabinet as delayed energy.

Therefore, Børresen designs its loudspeakers to work with Ansuz Darkz resonance-control devices.

Darkz use very hard materials and a precision ball-bearing interface.

This structure helps limit the transfer of outside vibration into the loudspeaker.

At the same time, it provides a controlled path for internal energy to leave the cabinet.

As a result, the speaker can operate from a more stable mechanical platform.

This can improve bass definition, image focus, and overall clarity.

Børresen strongly recommends Darkz for the A-Series.

SCANDINAVIAN DESIGN AND CRAFTSMANSHIP

The A3 reflects modern Scandinavian design.

Its appearance remains clean and refined. However, its larger form also gives it a strong visual presence.

The A-Series comes in walnut, black ash, and white finishes.

The walnut finish creates a warmer and more natural look.

In contrast, black ash offers a darker and more understated character.

The white finish provides a brighter and more contemporary option.

The design also pays tribute to the original Børresen 0-Series.

Therefore, the A3 connects the company’s earlier design language with its current direction.

DESIGNED AND ASSEMBLED IN AALBORG

Audio Group Denmark designs and assembles the A3 in Aalborg, Denmark.

This allows the company to control the relationship between the drivers, crossover, cabinet, and mechanical system.

The A3 also benefits from knowledge shared across Audio Group Denmark.

Its four brands are Ansuz, Aavik, Børresen, and Axxess.

Each brand has a different role.

However, all four share a common focus on low noise, resonance control, signal integrity, and musical realism.

Therefore, the A3 reflects the wider engineering philosophy of the group.

THE COMPLETE A-SERIES STATEMENT

The Børresen A3 is the fullest expression of the A-Series.

Its three DCC5s drivers deliver depth, scale, and dynamic authority.

Meanwhile, the RP94 ribbon tweeter preserves speed, openness, and fine detail.

The 2.5-way design helps the drivers work as one system.

In addition, controlled rear venting supports deep and natural bass.

The result is a floorstanding loudspeaker that sounds powerful without becoming heavy.

It offers precision without losing emotion.

Above all, the A3 brings the Børresen listening experience into a more accessible part of the range while maintaining a clear sense of ambition.
