The Linn 343 Passive with Active Bass (PWAB) is a four-way floor-standing reference loudspeaker, designed from the outset around Linn’s innovative Pistonik drive unit technology. Combining proprietary bass engineering, a precision-designed composite cabinet, and an elegant architectural form, the 343 delivers exceptional musical scale, clarity, and imaging while maintaining a compact presence suitable for any home.

Pistonik Drive Unit Technology

First introduced in Linn’s flagship 360 loudspeakers, Pistonik technology is central to the 343’s low-frequency performance. The 343 incorporates two Pistonik-equipped bass drivers:

• 220 mm Down-Firing Lower Bass Driver: Powered by Linn’s Power DAC architecture and Utopik power supply, delivering remarkable bass depth, texture, and control. Its down-firing placement uses the floor as an acoustic boundary to distribute low-frequency energy efficiently throughout the room.
• 190 mm Upper Bass Driver: Features an aluminium diaphragm and Pistonik motor system, providing low distortion, controlled output, and greater definition through the upper-bass frequencies.

Together, these drivers deliver powerful, controlled low-frequency performance while preserving the clarity and natural character of the recording.

Advanced Composite Cabinet Design

The Linn 343 features an entirely new cabinet constructed from a glass-fibre-reinforced moulding compound, providing excellent stiffness and density while allowing thinner cabinet walls and greater internal acoustic volume.

Its continuous, curved design minimises diffraction caused by sharp cabinet edges, supporting wide sound dispersion, stable imaging, and a spacious listening area. The sculpted enclosure also accommodates the down-firing bass system while maintaining a slender, elegant profile.

Passive with Active Bass Architecture

Unlike the fully integrated Exakt version, the 343 PWAB combines a passive three-way analogue crossover for its upper-bass, midrange, and tweeter array with a dedicated active lower-bass system.

The upper array is driven by external amplification, while Linn’s proprietary Power DAC and Utopik technologies provide precise control of the active bass system.

The 343 PWAB also supports external Exakt operation using a compatible Exaktbox and six amplification channels. Linn Space Optimisation is available when paired with a Linn DSM, allowing the system’s performance to be optimised for the listening environment.

Precision High-Frequency and Midrange Performance

The 343 incorporates a 19 mm thin-ply woven carbon dome tweeter and a 64 mm thin-ply woven carbon dome midrange driver. Their shared diaphragm technology supports consistent tonal character and smooth integration through the crossover region.

A carefully profiled tweeter waveguide and sculpted front baffle further contribute to controlled high-frequency dispersion and precise stereo imaging.

Mechanically Isolated Electronics

The rear electronics module is mechanically decoupled from the cabinet using a three-point spring isolation system, helping protect sensitive electronics from cabinet vibration.

A custom-designed, passively cooled aluminium heat sink provides silent thermal management without the need for cooling fans.
