The Børresen Bass Module 3 is an active subwoofer designed to deliver deep, fast, and highly controlled bass performance. Powered by a high-efficiency Class D Pascal amplification module, it combines power and precision to seamlessly extend low-frequency response. Engineered to integrate effortlessly with Børresen loudspeakers and high-end audio systems, the Bass Module 3 enhances musical realism with clarity, authority, and control.
Audio Group Denmark proudly introduces the Børresen Bass Module 3 (BM3) — a breakthrough in low-frequency performance. Designed and handcrafted in Denmark, the BM3 delivers deep, dynamic, and naturally detailed bass that integrates effortlessly with any high-end audio system.
Developed by Michael Børresen and Flemming Erik Rasmussen, the BM3 fuses advanced acoustic engineering with refined industrial design. Its very rare folded dipole architecture eliminates room pressurization, producing fast, controlled, and distortion-free bass that brings every musical performance to life. The opposing polarities of the folded dipole principle create the desirable in-room cancellation that effectively allows the BM3 to integrate far more easily with the listening environment than a conventional subwoofer.
Driven by a 2 × 300W Aavik UMAC amplifier and four custom 8” DCC8 Neo drivers arranged in a boxer engine configuration, the BM3 delivers extraordinary precision and depth. Its counteractive design eliminates self-generated vibrations, producing a sound that is both powerful and impeccably balanced — infusing every loudspeaker
system with lifelike realism and emotional presence.
The Børresen BM3 features four 8-inch Børresen DCC8 Neo drivers with spread-tow carbon fiber diaphragms reinforced by an extremely light aramid honeycomb core. This advanced composite delivers exceptional stiffness-to-weight ratio for ultra-fast transient response and minimal distortion. Paired with high-performance neodymium motors and double copper caps, the drivers produce deep, articulate bass with remarkable clarity, speed, and authority.
The BM3’s integrated amplifiers use the latest Pascal technology with high-speed UMAC switching modulation. With lower noise, reduced filtering requirements, and minimal output impedance, it delivers precise control over the four drivers, ensuring dynamic, accurate, and high-resolution bass performance across the full frequency range.
The BM3 incorporates an adjustable, fully analog low-pass crossover that integrates with virtually any loudspeaker, introducing no signal delay for perfect time alignment. It precisely filters higher frequencies so the BM3 reproduces only the intended bass range, shaping the roll-off to manage transitions, reduce overlap and distortion, and deliver tight, accurate, and seamlessly controlled low-end performance with enhanced overall clarity.
The Børresen Bass Module features a fully analog low-pass crossover derived directly from advanced Aavik amplifier designs. Unlike conventional subwoofers that rely on DSP-based filtering, this analog topology avoids signal delay and preserves timing accuracy. The crossover allows precise selection of cut-off frequencies between 30–80 Hz with a fixed 24 dB/octave slope, ensuring a natural and seamless transition. Fine level adjustment in 0.25 dB steps enables exact bass integration, while the internal crossover can be bypassed when using compatible Aavik electronics.
The Børresen Bass Module employs a power-factor-corrected resonant-mode switching power supply engineered specifically for its Class-D amplification stage. Operating with sine-wave behavior rather than square-wave switching, this supply delivers extremely low noise and exceptionally fast current response. As power demand increases, operating frequency rises to maintain stability and control. The result is vanishingly low output impedance, superior driver control, and a consistently low noise floor even under demanding musical conditions.
Noise rejection is fundamental to the performance of the Børresen Bass Module. Acoustic, electrical, and airborne noise are addressed through a comprehensive system of technologies developed across Audio Group Denmark. Active Tesla coils and active square Tesla coils suppress voltage spikes through counter-phase cancellation, dramatically lowering the noise floor. Analog Dither Technology amplifies the music signal while reducing background noise within the crossover circuits. Anti-Aerial Resonance Coil technology prevents RF interference from entering the signal path by absorbing and eliminating airborne noise. Together, these technologies create a purer, quieter environment where musical detail, clarity, and spatial definition can fully emerge.
Every Børresen Bass Module is assembled by hand at our Aalborg facility in Denmark. Our production combines advanced in-house capabilities — including CNC machining, cryogenic processing, and precision assembly — with carefully selected specialist partners. Each component is inspected, measured, and tested step by step to ensure consistency with the reference model. Final voicing is performed by ear, because every loudspeaker must sound exactly as intended before it leaves our factory.
Mechanical grounding plays a crucial role in the performance of the Børresen Bass Module. While its folded dipole design inherently generates fewer vibrations than conventional subwoofers, optimal results are achieved when unwanted resonances are effectively controlled. Ansuz Darkz resonance control devices decouple the bass module from the floor while providing a controlled path for internal vibrations to dissipate. This prevents resonance feedback, lowers noise, and enhances bass precision, clarity, and dynamic control — making Darkz an integral part of the BBM’s performance potential.
