The inspiration was simple: to give some of the world’s most talented audio engineers complete freedom in creating a speaker that can showcase Kef’s innovative abilities. With no design or cost restrictions, the team spent three years researching and testing speaker designs, resulting in the BLADE.
Premiered at the Munich High End Show in 2009, the BLADE concept was incredibly well received. Encouraged by the enthusiastic response, the team was given the go-ahead to refine the concept into a full production model for audiophiles. Delivering such super-premium acoustic capabilities to consumers required some groundbreaking technological innovation. Two years after initial concept, what seemed impossible became a reality.
The BLADE’s radical design is built around the goal to create a single apparent source loudspeaker. For high and mid frequency reproduction, the Blade uses Kef’s Uni-Q configuration with two coincident drivers. For low frequencies, the Blade has four drivers mounted back to back and spaced equidistantly on either side. This layout achieves an acoustic center that occupies the same point in space, while minimizing vibrations that cause unwanted cabinet coloration. Inside, the construction is ingenious, with new venting, bracing and wave management technologies. Meticulously specified, super-premium components – every one operating so comfortably within its performance envelope that you experience noticeably more precise imaging than is possible with conventional speakers. What you hear sounds as if it’s live – emotionally engaging, richly musical and effortlessly natural.
